Santa Fe Federal Savings & Loan
On August 12, 2008, PSPF sent a letter to the Planning Commission expressing concern about the Baristo Lofts project and the impact that development would have on the Santa Fe Federal Savings & Loan building.
On January 14, 2009 the Planning Commission approved the Baristo Lofts project (thankfully less the outdoor seating). This decision was made in the face of significant public concern regarding the "visual intrusion" of the proposed project.
On February 17, 2009 PSPF sent a letter to the City Council asking them to reject the Baristo Lofts project. The project was to appear before the city council on February 18th but just hours before the meeting the item was withdrawn from the agenda by the applicant. This action was unfortunate because about 80 concerned citizens had made special efforts to attend this meeting to voice their opposition to the project.
On May 6, 2009 the city council voted 3 to 2 (Pougnet, Foat and Hutcheson supporting) to designate the Santa Fe Federal Savings & Loan building a Class 1 historic site. We thank all involved for contributing to this success!
